The staff at the reception desk and in the office will assist you in making emergency and routine appointments, order repeat prescriptions, answer numerous and varied questions and offer help and assistance at all times. It is a legal requirement that confidentiality of patients' records is maintained at the highest level by all staff.

We are fortunate to have medical students attached to our practice for short periods. You will be informed if the student is scheduled to be with your doctor. You are perfectly entitled to ask to see your doctor without the student if you wish. Let the receptionist know if this is the case.
The health visitor is a nurse with further qualifications. Their main role is
to promote health for all ages. They give advice regarding healthy living, diet,
exercise, smoking cessation and drug/alcohol abuse.
• They are qualified in child health and development and follow a programme
of assessments for the under fives.
• They will enter into a partnership relationship with parents to offer
appropriate support on identified health needs.
• They advise parents about the importance of necessary immunisations.
• Home visiting is an important part of their role.
•
They offer support home visiting to patients on discharge from hospital following
myocardial infarction (heart attack) or heart by-pass surgery.
•
They will offer to facilitate support groups as the need arises.
•

The health visitors can be contacted by telephoning (01466) 765015. This office
is not always manned and only non-urgent messages should be left on the answerphone.
The community nurses provide nursing care in the home to people who cannot attend
the health centre or hospital. Patients may be referred to the nurses by their
doctor or the hospital or by any other team involved with their care. You can
also refer yourself by simply contacting the community nurse on (01466) 765014.
The community nurses offer a wide range of nursing care and advice which includes
the following:
• She can make assessments and refer to other services (eg Chiropody, Occupational
Therapist etc.)
•
She gives support to cancer patients, administers certain types of chemotherapy
and works closely with Macmillan and Marie Curie nurses.
• She can take blood for investigations, measure for wheelchair applications,
give advice on diet, constipation, medication and assess incontinence problems
and arrange treatment and management and the supply of pads where appropriate
as well as catheter care. She will assess wounds and do dressings. Some of the
district nurses can prescribe basic medications, creams and dressing products.
• She will follow-up all known hospital patients who have been discharged
home. This may be by telephone. Should the nurse not make contact with you and
you would like to see her, please phone the number given above.
• She can do various types of screening where patients cannot come to the
practice nurse.
•
She can refer patients to clubs and voluntary organisations and give advice on
benefits relating to medical problems.
• She can advise on the provision of the temporary loan of nursing equipment.
You can contact the community nurses on (01466) 765014 (8.30am - 5.00pm seven
days a week) or if unavailable, by leaving a message on the answer-phone.
Outwith these hours call (01467) 620454 for the Night Nursing Service.
During your pregnancy you will be looked after by the Bennachie Community Midwifery Team. When you discover you are pregnant you should contact the Midwife for your First Antenatal Appointment and collect a “booking pack” for the Medical Practice. At this appointment you will have a routine health check by the Midwife and a plan for your antenatal care will be discussed. The Community Midwifery Service also provides groups, clinics, antenatal classes, as well as Intrapartum (Delivery) and Postnatal care.
Your midwife can be contacted every day on 01466 765024 between 08.30am and 5pm. If you need to speak to a midwife outwith these hours, phone the unit with whom you are booked for delivery. The community psychiatric nurse is responsible for managing mental health problems
in the community. This involves mental state monitoring, help with activities
of daily living and support for families and carers.
Referral is by your doctor via the Community Mental Health Team. Anyone who is
a known client can make direct contact by telephoning (01466) 765012.
